Minnesota Lawmakers Targeted in Overnight Shootings Near Minneapolis

In a shocking and targeted act of violence, two Minnesota Lawmakers —Senator John Hoffman and Representative Melissa Hortman —were shot early Saturday morning at their homes in separate suburbs of Minneapolis.

Both officials and their spouses were injured in the attacks, which took place in Champlin and Brooklyn Park. Authorities believe the attacks were deliberate and politically motivated.

Gunman Posed as Police

According to reports, the suspect approached the lawmakers’ homes wearing body armor and a police-style uniform, pretending to be an officer. He then opened fire, injuring the lawmakers and their spouses.

The victims are being treated at local hospitals. Their conditions have not yet been made public.

Police Response & Lockdown

Law enforcement quickly issued shelter-in-place orders, warning residents not to open their doors unless they see two verified officers and to confirm identity through 911.

The suspect remains at large, and police are conducting an active statewide manhunt. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and FBI have joined the investigation.

Governor Walz Responds

Governor Tim Walz called the shootings “an attack on democracy” and activated the State Emergency Operations Center. He promised full support for law enforcement and urged the public to remain calm but cautious.

Growing Concerns for Public Officials

Authorities believe these were not random attacks, but carefully planned and possibly politically driven. The impersonation of police has raised additional safety concerns statewide.

Officials are urging other lawmakers and public figures to increase home security and stay alert for suspicious activity.

Stay Safe & Informed

This is a developing story. More updates will follow as authorities release new information.

If you have any tips or see suspicious activity, call 911 immediately.
